Question : Where or from what sources do the medical students get their knowledge, attitude
and practical guidelines for ethics on medical practices?
Answer : From the classroom and on the job training with patients for years, we get the ethical
guidelines on medical practices from :
l. In class with medical instructor :
In the class of "Self Directed Learning", the topic of Ethics on Medical Practices is dis
cussed between the instructor and students on identification the patient's sample case. There are many
points of view on each case and the practical guidelines on various circumstances to practice ethically
in daily life.
2. The workshop :
We get the ethical guidelines from attending in the workshop, emphasizing on patient's
sample case, the incidents that actually occur and expected to occur frequently.
3. Reading the supplementary textbook/articles :
From reading the supplementary textbook, such as Ethical Code for obstetrician and other
articles, "Patient's rights" by Medical Council, provides us to know the appropriate ethical codes for
professional medical practice, 6 important codes on ethics, patient's rights and ethical problem of
gynecologist.
4. Actual practice on medical treatment for patients :
It is ourselves direct learning to learn how to provide the appropriate medical treatment for
patients. As a doctor, we realize our full responsibility, our intention on medical practice and profes
sional manner. We will talk to our patients, see, solve their problem even petty things but they will be the
basic attitude of being doctor.
5. Attending patient's round on wards with medical instructors:
The medical instructors always provide technical knowledge, ethical idea and ethical
medical practice for patients when doing round. We memorize the ethic code from the real case.
6. Discussing with friends :
We exchange our idea and share our experiences in providing our medical treatment for
patients and how to improve our mistakes, such as joking, shouting when doing patient's examination,
complimentary and gratitude from patients.
