Question : As a medical student, what is your idea how the Faculty of Medicine can inspire
their medical students for improvement and awareness on their ethics?
Answer : What the Medical School should do are:
1. Theory :providing knowledge on ethical theory thoroughly.
2. Execution : performing according their ethical knowledge for self-direct learning.
3. Realization : Realizing the benefits for oneself and clearly acknowledge by others.
In the Medical School, the teaching and learning of ethics are very less. In the first year, the
students can learn some supportive/alternative subjects but in the second year, the students have no
other times, only for the medical subjects. Although, the faculty expedites their policy to their medical
instructors to insert the ethical issues in their class but the students seem to pay no awareness on the
ethical issues. They think these ethical codes are too common to learn in class and sometimes, they feel
these ethical topics so funny. Only a few of the senior medical instructors can teach them on ethical
codes. There is no interests or emphasizing for ethical practices, probably due to the lack of time or
personnel and place unavailability.
It is an endless question how to get the medical students realized the value of Buddhism and
to use their philosophy in their social life. At present, the religious precepts are declined, their medical
knowledge will help them to survive their hunger as human beings but they have to get the knowledge
for their spirit happiness by practicing and perceiving by their own selves.
