Objectives: To produce the Thai version of the Rome IV Diagnostic Questionnaires for Pediatric Gastrointestinal Disorders for
children and adolescents, and assess their validity and reliability.
Materials and Methods : The original English version of Rome IV Diagnostic Questionnaires for Pediatric Gastrointestinal Disorders,
both parent-report and child self-report questionnaires, consisted of 5 sections. The questionnaires were forward translated into
Thai. The Thai version was then back translated into English by a professional translator. The original and the back-translated
versions were compared and validated using index of item-objective congruence (IOC). Then, reliability tests of the final Thai
version were performed with 50 children and 50 parents and analyzed by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. Retest of the questionnaires
was evaluated in all subjects and analyzed by intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC).
Results : The IOC of the Thai parent-report and self-report questionnaires were 0.87 and 0.91, respectively. Cronbach’s alpha
coefficients of the parent-report and self-report questionnaires were 0.94 and 0.96, respectively. The ICC was 0.99 for the parent-
report and self-report questionnaires.
Conclusion : The Thai version of the Rome IV Diagnostic Questionnaires for Pediatric Gastrointestinal Disorders for children and
adolescents, both parent-report and self-report, provide good validity and good reliability and can be used for research on functional
gastrointestinal disorders in Thai children and adolescents.
